| Hi,
My name is Kai (green_dude), and I have been growing stuff since I was a little guy way back when. I lived on a commune with my mum and have been interested in continuing to grow as much of my own food as possible, ever since.
My partner and I are also buy only organic, free range and ethically processed meat and other food. We harvest water off our roof and are looking into getting some solar panels through one of the deal going around at the moment.
We are also lusting after some acreage one day but for now we are on a 760 square block in an outer area of a major city.

| Hi Kai! Sounds like you had a pretty cool childhood. Every time I see photos of kids on communes they look so darn happy. Were you home schooled too? We are in the same situation as you - medium/large urban block but planning and dreaming for that rural move. On our City house we have grid connected panels but we don't really harvest water. What I mean by "don't really" is that I bought two 200L tanks from Kmart, that were plumbed in but my husband took them off when we extended a bit of the laundry and they haven't gone back on yet. 400L's isn't a lot though. I saw your post in the alternative power section and also in the gardening section, so I will go have a read. Glad to have you on board to dream and plan along with the rest of us. | |

| Welcome to the forum Kai. I spent some time on a commune as a kid in the Coromandel NZ, I have very fond memories of it!! | |
