.....those ones behind Sydney.

I live on 2.5 acres and have transformed my garden from an overgrown weedy mess to a native plant and vegetable and fruit paradise. I get so many beautiful birds and insects that help the garden. I am semi-retired so it's a little easier to keep on top of it all.

I am interested in learning more about alternative power. Also about keeping chickens. I have never had them but my grandchildren keep telling me to get some.

Looking forward to talking with you all and learning some good stuff about living less off the grid and more self sufficently.

Susie

Hi Susie,

Well if you are talking about the Blue Mountains, then lucky you!

It sounds like you have made a huge difference to the state of your garden. Good on you.

You have come to the right place to talk alternative power and chooks. The forum is only new as you can see, but we will get it moving. There's also the main website www livingoffthegrid com au where you can find more into. My girls love our chooks and I love their poo and eggs! Don't like their poo on the back deck though.

Looking forward to getting to know you better and learning from your green thumb.

Tallulah

Thank you, I have been here for 18 months and have spend hours upon hours mulching, mulching mulching. Everything I weed and all lawn clippings, leaf matter and all useable kitchen scraps go into one of the 4 tumble weed composting drums that I have.

I am so excited to get chickens so I can add chicken manure to them.

The native plants in my garden and the produce in the garden love the compost and with the cold climate here in Winter it is vital to keep plants protected.

Awesome. Chicken poo will make a huge difference to the soil quality with its high nitrogen content. I am jealous that you have 4 tumbleweeds. I think they are brilliant. I'd love just 2 of them to cycle between monthly. There was one on the side of the road in the next street on our way to the shops one day and I said to my husband "we are taking that home with us if it's still there on the way back". But it was gone! Sad
